Rover V-8 main bearings

I understand that the Rover V-8 engine main bearings in my 1972 Plus 8 Morgan can be changed by dropping the oil pan. Does anyone have experience and tips on doing this while the engine is still in the car?
I am relatively sure worn main bearings are my problem; I can hear dull knocking at low speed/full throttle and the oil pressure is very low at idle.
Thanks for any suggestions.

When you dropped your pan did you replace any of the crankshaft main bearings? If you can do it on your car I think I can do it on my Morgan.

No I didn't change any bearings
The first time was to poder coat the pan. The second was to clean the pick up.
I know a bearing change has been done by many though.
One caveat, in a Wedge the crank has to be in a certain position

Once you drop the pan, it's easy to roll the bearings out one at a time and replace them. Remove the cap, half of the bearing should be inside the cap. Sometimes it will stick to the crank journal. Either way just pull it out. The top half will be a little tricky. You have to push it out. It will spin right around the journal and come out the bottom. You install the new ones by lubing them up with engine assembly lube and rolling them back in. You have to pay attention to the little notches that hold them in place, and make sure they go back into their little cutouts in the cap and block. There will most likely be a windage tray that has to come out as well, at least the later Rover V8s had one. Make sure you replace them one journal at a time, and spin the crank by turning the large bolt in the front balancer. Spin it after each journal's bearings are replaced. Watch out for the thrust washer. Can't remember where it goes, but you'll see it.

tr8todd,
Thanks for the advice. Sounds simple enough and I'll give it a try.
