I just discovered this series, which is viewable on YouTube. Stephen Fry (for BBC) drives a LHD "London taxi" across the United States.

Quirky, fun, and interesting.

I just watched the first 15 minutes or so of this. It looks pretty good! Unfortunately, I have to get some work done today, so the rest of it will have to wait...

ahhhhh...... Maynard G.

Love Fry... thanks for the links.
There's a lot of Jeeves & Wooster YouTube too.

Dobey Gillis (the show). Bob Denver as Maynard G. Krebs. Whenever anyone said "work" Maynard would sort of SHOUT it as something to be avoided (he was the beatnik in the group).

Maynard G Krebs and the avoidance of work - BINGO!

Come to think of it, the USA now is sure different from the Dobie Gillis era. Back then, "beatniks" were stereotyped as lazy coffee drinking iconoclasts. Many folks today just barely know the word "beatnik". And few know where the word actually came from. Wow.

Great video. I'd forgotten that Krebs called the father character "Mr. G." Most of the show would take place in the grocery story, high school or the city park (on a bench - where a lof of their famous lines were delivered). I was only about 10 at the time, and my parents didn't let me watch it much.

Dobie G, Paladin and Yancy Derringer were all on my list of favorites. Candy Bergen's MOM was Derringer's (kinda-sorta) romantic interest, too. Beautiful lady.

Don't forget Yancy's side kick Pahoo.

About the same time was "Car 54 Where Are You." I still can sing the theme-song!

"Toody... ooo ooo..."

Now you're talking.... Toody and Muldoon!

If you knew that doc, then I'm guessing you know every word of the Rawhide theme :cowboy:

Yup. And Rowdy Yates before the spaghetti.
