Installing New Glovebox on BJ8

I purchased a new glovebox for my BJ8 and not only does it not follow the curve of the dash opening the pressed cardboard is very stiff and it's going to be difficult to make it fit. I thought about taking a sponge and wetting the cardboard with a good dose of water to see if I can soften it up. Anybody have a better way to tackle the fitting?

I would just return it and get one that fits .
The one I used in my 67 came from Ahead4Healeys fit perfect all the screws lined up and has the correct black fuzzy lining .

I must have gotten a different batch run but I learned a trick and that is to take a razor knife and make the cuts on the outside radius to make the cardboard bend easier. I had already installed the box using a sponge and water to make it bend easier but I guess both ways do work. The "tabs" that you need for the screws were bent easy using water and pliers without losing strength.

Another thing I learned about buying a new BJ8 dash is do not ever buy one without the hinges preinstalled. The money I saved by buying a dash at a good price was quickly used up in the purchase of tools to be able to drill the numerous holes in tightspaces for the glovebox hardware not to mention the glovebox lock hole had to be carefully reshaped using a wood chisel. The threat of screws going through the veneer to the finshed face or splitting the veneer was always there! I think I can have a drink now...maybe several!
