Being from "away", I prefer this shot when I think of "Ahhh, Maine"

Best Maine story I've heard in awhile was when a new high school principal who had transferred to central Maine from Massachusetts was asked by his new students if it would be ok if they brought their sleds to school once it started snowing. With visions of Currier and Ives, hot chocolate and Charlie Brown's Christmas in his head, he thought it would be great to see the youngsters pulling their sleds behind them to school. The first snow arrived and the principal was greeted with teens on snowmobiles tearing around the school. When he asked the vice-principal what was going on, it was explained to him that he had ok'ed the students bringing their "sleds" to school.

Reminds me a lot of Charlottetown, PEI when I lived there, my guess it is Portland, ME? Interesting when I lived on PEI I was also from "away", it must be a New England thing.

It looks so quiet, so very, very quiet. Have a good friend that lives in Orland. She and her hubby and their little dog are enjoying hot coffee and the warmth of their wood stove this morning. While they could snowbird they choose not to.
 
Thanks don't ask me why but I thought Gardiner or Hallowell. Haven't been there in years. My wife's brother lived there before moving to Readfield.
 
Good guesses. As you know Hallowell is just down the road and they look similar. We're pretty close to Readfield.

I can appreciate Rick's comment about preferring the coast (lighthouses, lobsters, etc) - generally more fun to visit than inland. I lived 1/2 mile from the ocean down in southern Maine for while and it has its advantages. (Better restaurants, primarily) I prefer the interior, though. Lots quieter.

We actually had our daughters wedding in York. We go to Ogunquit often.

One of our favorite vacation spots also. I lived in Moody for about 15 years. Remember Perkins Cove when there was little but a lobster place with picnic tables - late forties early fifties. You may already know: Best pizza in the ~world~ (IMHO) at Ruby's down in Kittery and best breakfast in the area at Rick's in York Village - great view of the gas pumps.
 
My son went to university in Machias. We used to go there about 4 times a year and I loved the relaxed way of life . One unfortunate thing I noticed is a lot of young people are losing their great Maine accents, possibly because of tv?
