Tom Cruise to play Carroll Shelby??!!

Awww, heck no.....this just seems wrong. Or maybe it's just me?

His rep confirms to E! News that the action-loving actor is in talks to
reteam with Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski on the
gearhead-fantasy movie Go Like He*l, based on A.J. Baime's Go Like
He*l: Ford, Ferrari, and their Battle For Speed and Glory at Le Mans
.

According to The Wrap , which first reported that Cruise was
circling the film, the 51-year-old movie star would play racing champ turned
engineer Carroll Shelby (the Shelby Mustang's namesake), who was instrumental in
helping Lee Iacocca and Henry Ford II turn Ford Motor Co. into a formidable
player in the high-speed world of European auto racing.

Tommy Lee Jones? Yep. Billy Bob Thornton? Yep. Even Gary Busey!

Cruise?

Methinks the earth has shifted on it's axis....... :(

Yea doesn't do anything for me either. Shelby was a 6ft plus, kinda big guy, Cruise half a foot or more less and somewhat slender. I'd have a tough time seeing him as Shelby. Although depending on the car sequences I might still watch it..

No. No. No.

20 years ago, sure. Not today. All way too old.

Shel was 42 in '65.

I may sound just wrong to have a furr-in actor play the Texas chicken farmer. But after seeing Cowboys & Aliens, I think Daniel Craig would be the best bet from Hollywood's current A-list.

But there must be American actors out there similar to the Tommy-Lee or Billy Bob of two decades ago.

Joaquin Phoenix would be my pick. The look, the acting chops, he was a great Johnny Cash...
