For those who volunteered to "help if needed" during the trip: I'm departing September 16 or 17 from Connecticut, heading up into New York then into Ontario, then west to Washington, then south per the map on my blogpage.
Just yesterday I was able to confirm that the photo from June 1959 Motor Trend magazine really does show my dad, me, and my brother, looking at a 1959 Mercedes-Benz 190 as it passed through Fort Worth on its cross country test drive. Here's the photo:
Until yesterday I had no proof the Mercedes ever went through Fort Worth. Even Motor Trend, and Mercedes-Benz USA had no record of the original route, and believed it went from Los Angeles directly to Kansas City.
Yesterday I found an original M-B ad, showing the actual route across the USA. It *did* pass through Fort Worth on the way to Dallas. I've been looking for that missing bit of evidence for four years. Here's the ad:
