TR2/3/3A TR3 Door Panel Screws - Location - How Many and Where?

I would like to get some guidelines as to where the panel screws should be located. I have checked my archive of pix and they seem to be all over. Can someone provide anything definitive? I will show a few from my collection of pix I have accumulated - some look good, some look just wrong, and no two look the same... Thanks in advance,

Pic 1 Comment/Question: too few along the curved front section? (should have 4, not 2?)

Pic 2 Comment/Question: one too few across top?

Pic 3 Comment/Question: 1 more than the number of holes along bottom compared to mine, otherwise looks good?

Pic 4 Comment/Question: an older piece but too few along curved front section?

Pic 6 Comment/Question: strange spacing along top but may be a different series - TR2 or TR3 vs TR3a or something?

Pic 7 Comment/Question: Too many along top?

OK, all things considered after looking at a number of pictures, a few books and the holes in my door, I think the proper number of panel screws is 14, locations as shown. What say ye? Comments?

My TR2 was done by the side screen interior master, Larry Learn in Indiana, Pennsylvania and there are 15 screws. The difference between the immediate above and mine is I have five screws at the top rail versus four. The biggest sin is haveing too thick padding under the vinyl giving a sunk in look to the screws.

Just went outside to compare yours to mine; they are the same. For some reason, my #9 and 10 always need to be tightened. HTH!

Hi Lou - by "top rail" you mean my screws numbered 4-5-6 and 7? I recall your car is an early 3 or maybe even a 2? I can't remember since it was 2010 when I last saw it, but I wonder if it is different than a 3A? I noticed in pic 6 in my first post there is an extra screw across the top like you mentioned. The car in pic 6 has the wedge fitting for the side screens which I believe is indicative of an earlier car. Perhaps there was a changeover and a screw got deleted?

My impression is that it depended who was on shift that day at the factory and how his mood was!?!

When repanelling mine, I used the factory holes and an ice pic. The ice pic finds the holes and then a small drill opens the panel for the screw. One or two holes were oversized from years of abuse...but a little tapping with a hammer and dolly got them back to size. I count 16 screws.

Mine looks just like that ^.

As far as I know, it was done by side screen interior master Nigel in Coventry, West Midlands.

But consider that a data point, not an answer. As noted, it may have varied.

I'm also getting ready to recover the door panels on my 59 TR-3A. I have the "original" panels and the holes are exactly as you have them layed on in your photo.

That's a good question. I recall one supplier was sending Phillips screws but my recollection of the originals is that they were slotted (oval head in each case).

Check out this Item # on ebay 400535246528 This is where I got my screws and washers. More than what you will need. I got the 1" screws because the ones form the big 3 can be short at times. Not hard to cut them if you need to. (#4 trim screws)
