Spedo cable

Before I start this project and then run into problems, thought I'd ask if there are any tricks to replacing the speedometer cable on a 63 BJ7. Thanks.

HI a good trick to use is to attach a wire cable or a string on to the speeo cable which will trace the installed path.
So that when you go to install the replacement you know how to properly route it.

Hi Ranger, Keoke gave you some good advice. Also if the pull was going to be complicated it can be helpful to use the old cable to pull in a messenger wire to use to pull the new cable back thru. Since I haven't put mine back in yet and I don't remember where it lay, (i'm notorious for not taking enough pic) I'm curious where it should go in a BJ7. Seems to me that on the earlier cars, it just dropped down from behind the dash and entered the tunnel thru a slit in the carpet. Please let me know what you discover during this project. thanks, Dave.

Certainly does on my BJ8 - I'm supposing that its correct on my car ;-)

Hi Dave, will do. Ranger

Yep through the hole in the top of the gear box cover, through a hole in the carpet and up behind the dash. I tried re-routing mine into the engine compartment and back through the fire wall but found that it then did not work so smoothly? I have now purchased a new cable and will rout it up through the gear box cover again.

Bob
