Some expensive vegetables

Gonna do a paper on this? I know it's a bit late with no control samples but still would be cool. It would be even better if it became a tax write off.
Ha! You'd have to be an organic chemist to pull off a study like that. There are so many different organic compounds in creosote, it would take a gas chromatograh to figure out what and how much stuff gets leached into the ground and what gets up into the plant. On the other hand, we could wait and see if my family develops any symptoms. (We're already pretty strange; it might be hard to tell...)

In all seriousness, many of the pestiicides that commonly get used in vegetable gardens and don't get completely washed off would cause me far more concern than the little bit of creosote that might get into the soil and up into the plants.

Out at Sturbridge Village, we use nothing from "modern times". On the farms and gardens, all the weed, animal, and insect control is done using early 19th century techniques. Things that grew on your own farm were used back then for the same purposes that people use expensive, plastic bottle chemicals today.

OK Tom, I'll bite. Are there things that you grow on the farm that will kill weeds or insects? I understand the concept of farm-produced fertilizer...:disgust:

Keith - PM me your email address and I'll send you pdf files of some of the articles I've written.
