TR2/3/3A Front windscreen help needed. TR3A 1960

There seems to be no gasketing between the stanchions and the body of the car. Seems to me that a rubber gasket would be needed?

Also in a previous BCF tip MKUTZ mentioned "for this one do a dry fit of the glass in the two part frame--also make sure that the two little steel bars on the side of the upper framehalf are installed and the holes are freshly tapped". I see no mention of any little steel bars, in the catalogs or the parts listings, could that be the corner brackets?

I appreciate what ever thoughts and help you can pass my way.
Cheers, Tinkerman

Possibly referring to the tenon plates? Tenon plates are item 51 here.

The early Dzus stanchions had a groove with a wad of material in it; but AFAIK the later ones didn't have anything except the tag end of the seal across the bottom.

Personally, I wouldn't even think about chasing those holes with a tap. The brass frame isn't all that strong to begin with, and there is a lot of force on those 3 little side screws. It's probably best if you not think about what happens if they fail at 75 mph ...

Someone mentioned that I should get the rear view mirror mounted before mounting the wind screen. No problem I shall do that, however what about the vent lid? Or doesn't it matter?
Thanks, Dick

Shouldn't matter -- I've done both with the windscreen in situ though I suppose these bits are somewhat easier to do now while the screen is not there.

I believe the steel bars refered to are the 4 steel blocks that mount to the inside of frame for the upper 2 stanchion screws. The 4 blocks are held to the frame with a small countersunk screw, and have the hole for the 2ba screws. The bottom screw threads into the corner bracket. If the threads are stripped you can replace the blocks.THis is for post 60k.

IMO, doesn't matter much. Might be fractionally easier without the windscreen. Get the linkage hooked up before you install the lid, though.

I'm with Tom - some frames have different setups but I'm thinking they are talking about those blocks.
