TR4/4A TR4a medallion

I recently picked up a TR4a. It is an early 4a CT51xxx. It has a tr4 shield hood ornament. Did some of the early 4a's have the old 4 medallion or has someone switched the hoods?
 
The one other possible difference might be where the hood buffers make contact with the rear corners of the hood/bonnet. TR4s had a flat buffer, as I recall there were cone shaped buffers on the 4A. Do not know whether the bonnet itself changed with the revised buffer.

Oh, another possible clue -- the hood latch on 4s did not have a safety catch -- I'm thinking the 4As had one.
 
Geo mentioned some good clues to check although as he mentioned not sure where the hood might have changed with regards to the conical buffer and the safety latch (which the TR4A did have).

I agree though that the TR4A should have the world medallion and that the hood has probably been changed.

I believe that would mean it's from an earlier car. A good check, though maybe not for the full answer, would be whether the underside of the hood at each windshield corner has little raised "donut" seats for the conical hood stops that Geo mentioned.

Yes, that particular "customizing" trick seems to have had quite a resurgence in recent years. Of course, it's easier than it used to be, since so many badge and other trim items are simply stuck on modern cars with adhesives or double-sided tapes.
 
KVH - I've got the donuts. Scott - you might actually be right. I'm on the road, or I'd go down to the garage to check. The PO filled in the holes in the trunk lid for the IRS badging, so he might have done the same on the bonnet.
