Time to change the original natty top on my 67 BJ8, but torn between the oe everflex and
the stayfast canvas. Original vinyl or improved cloth? The upholstery shops are all favour the
stayfast over the vinyl. Anybody have experience with the stayfast? How does it look?

I did the Stayfast both on my top and my tonneau cover and it is fantastic. I personally prefer it over my old vinyl top and in my opinion it looks much better on my BT7.

Cheers,

Jeff

I've had Everflex and Robins Sunfast.
Everflex is much easier to keep clean and protect. Wash it, dry it, wipe on Aerospace 303 any time you wish to help protect from the uv rays. Done.
Sunfast cloth, or any other fabric will need more attention. Wash it with a soft (horsehair recommended) brush, dry it, apply a sealant every couple years to keep it water proof. The material will collect dust, lint that needs to be removed with a vacuum brush or lint roller. (Everflex does not collect lint).

Personally, I like the look of a canvas top, and currently have a Robbins Sunfast on my car. I keep on top of the maintenance. It's not a big deal for me.

Have both..prefer the everflex by far......

Why spend more money on a harder to maintain, non original top when it will spend 95% of its time folded up?
Because it looks more elegant/up scale and because it's cloth, it does not have a sheen like everflex, thereby the paint looks more reflective when not competing with a material that has a bit of shine to it.

Harder to maintain, is correct. It's like having a black car. Black rewards with the very best shine, and it's also the most high maintainence for it shows dust, spiderwebs etc...but it out shines other colors, and on and on.

As far as spending 95% of the time folded up, that depends on the owner. Mine is up more than it's down. But then again, my tops fit and finish is excellent and it looks good up. Healey's are one of the few cars who's top looks good up.

I drive my car everyday. With the top up, you can have a conversation, your hair still looks combed (those of us who still have some left), you can adjust the inside temperature and be comfortable.

Reasons to have it down, well it's just so much fun and that's what driving a sports is all about.
When the time is right to have it down. I don't want it down at night when I run to the supermarket at 9pm and it's dark and cold.

I also have the canvas type. I have not found the maintenance to any different except that I have to clean it less often. Dry microfiber to dust off. Lint brush to remove pollen. I love the look and have a tonneau of the same material. They make cleaners and other products to keep it looking new but I have not needed anything in two years (yet). I think it is quieter when driving, too.

thanks for the great feedback (this is what a good forum is all about).
Chose the canvas type .........now the fun starts.
