Scratching my head????

My BE isn't running for C----p. I've changed distributor's [points yet] and I've checked fuel flow. Seems to not miss a shot when not under load but under load I have an intermitten miss. Not the least bit regular. Do I now check compression?? Seems like not long ago I checked valve clearance and set them but I'm beginning to suspect something internal. If anyone has another suggestion I'm open. Coil??

when was the last time it ran without this problem

check....
* check spark plugs
* check timeing
* check spark advance
* then check compression
* then check leak down

Oil in dashpots

Lets see...Plug wires were changed, don't believe I have checked the dashpots in a while so will try that. As to correct running it ran OK last spring and since the summer was so hot that driving without AC wasn't all that appealing it didn't get driven till last fall when problem began. Distributor was one that I pieced together when I fitted the 1275 and the points plate was very sloppy so thought that was the problem. I'm going to change coil first after checking the dashpots [ thanks, that didn't even occur to me] then another distributor swap. I'll keep up with the blow by blow.

Oil in dashpots

X2 - You might experiment with different oil weights too.

Check that you are truly balanced too. That means butterflies opening simultaneously, same jet and idle setting too. Don't forget to check for vacuum leaks.

I think that you are correct with the coil change- sounds like yours is weak and the spark is blowing out with the higher compressions of full throttle.

Well I much appreciate all the excellent tip's but I have solved the problem. Seem's it was caused by DCO. Dumb current owner!! When you don't get one side of the distributor cap latched it tend's to give you fairly erratic spark's!!

Thanks much....think you guys were bored and needed a test anyway!

That was going to be exactly my guess. ;)

Trevor, you could have saved me some time.:glee:
