59 AH 100/6 late production
When I removed the material (vinyl?) from the dash the other day, I discovered an aluminum dash?? is this the correct one?

Regards,

Doug

Hey Doug,
I had a 58 BN6 and its dash was steel and the original one. Never heard of one from the factory out of aluminum so maybe yours is a later replacement.
Regards,
Mike

thanks Mike! That's what I am thinking. I was surprised when I removed all the covering and there was an unpainted aluminum dash. The car had a racing past so maybe someone changed it. Great, now I may need to find another part for this restoration.............

Regards,

Doug

I've got an extra original dash that came with my '60 BT7 that I'm willing to sell. I can take some photos of it when I get home this evening; send me a PM if you're interested.

As far as I know all of the 300's and late 100-6 as well as the 100 had aluminum dash panels. I have had many parts cars along with complete cars and have never found a steel one. The aluminum is correct.

My '58 BN6 has got an aluminium dash. All Healeys produced before the MK3 were fitted with aluminium dashboards AFAIK. I've never seen a steel dash on a Big Healey.

thanks everyone for the replies...!
(Js-thanks for the offer and hang tight.......I will use the one I took off if aluminum is correct).

So, the aluminum is the correct dash, hmmm. it was covered with a glued on "vinyl" material that was a PITA to get off. I still need to remove all the glue residue, I had expected a steel dash painted black beneath, but saw no indication of paint, front or back (inside or outside under the covering). If the aluminum is the correct one, I will clean it and paint to match (the car color?, which is blue) or interior color which would be black. Thanks again,

Doug

Well, just goes to show you what I know ! Guess my BN6 dash was not the original one !!!

what is really funny about all this is I was reluctant to ask what I thought was going to be a "stupid" and obvious question. I really was surprised when I started looking at the dash.............glad I dont have to repair it because I am hopefully finished with all the aluminum welding on the shrouds........not easy

Thanks again guys

Doug

Here is our 1957 original dash, also unpainted aluminum. Have a 1962 BT7 and a 1963 BJ7 and they both have aluminum dash panels also.

Are these the new project cars? Anything ever come of Foote's cars? I always wanted to see that Swiss market car restored, as it had so many unusual features on it...

Remaining on topic, both of the BN6s I had were fitted with aluminum dashes, though I was reluctant to recover the one in BN6L-942 with vinyl, opting for doing the engine turned finish instead...

Yes Randy, they are the project cars (Foote's cars). My friend bought them. He is keeping the tri carb and I get the BJ7. It actually is a German car not Swiss. Yes I agree it is a neat car but quite far gone with lots of rust and not a whole lot is still there. Mike said it was numbers matching but neither of the block I got with the cars matched the certificate so I will probably do up a period nasty boy (ala 283 or 327 chevy v8). But that will be years to come, it will be stored up in my barn until I can finish the other projects in the shop.

Sometime ago I rebuild my Longbridge 1957 BN4LO4.... (original)dash, this is the situation after the peeling
Cheers

thanks everyone!
it seems that I have the original aluminum dash and that I need to clean it and vinyl cover. I am doing a complete restoration so I want to do it right. It has taken me a few years to get all the rust/metal/panels, etc repaired. I am now going through all the components and cleaning/blasting and rebuilding them while i wait for warm enough temperature to paint the scuttle. THEN, things can start going back onto the car! wahoooo

Excellent! I know that once you get around to it, the car will be a prime example of the Marque, regardless of what engine is pushing it (maybe a camouflaged BMW I-6...).

For a finder's fee, you guys owe me a plate lunch from Poche's (relax, I could've said Don's...). ;)
