Catholicism is a dirty word I guess
Did someone say something nasty
Can't imagine it was me as I don't think I had the last word

Forum rules state "No politics, religion, or controversial topics".

I wasn't really paying attention (nor am I particularly religious), but I've seen a few posts that stepped over that line in my opinion. Obviously the moderators may have different opinions.

It's just idle chatter anyway, so my advice is to not take it personally.

Well, that was kind of my point. Ultimately, it's Basil's sandbox, so Basil gets ultimate authority. If he (or his lieutenants) decide a post is acceptable, then it is acceptable. If not, then it's not.

As it happens, I don't have a problem with the video either; it's not what I would call a "religious" post. The point was people doing funny things, the religious connection was only incidental. But it's not my decision to make so it really doesn't matter what I think. Mickey obviously thought it was appropriate, so it is. I can either accept that or take my marbles and go home.

As Mel Brooks would say, "It's good to be king!"

Never did like taking sand all that much, I'd much rather have salt

As a practicing Catholic, I take the issue being discussed maybe more seriously than someone who isn't a practicing Catholic. While I respect everyone's opinions to feel however they want to feel about it, at the same time I'd ask that folks respect my feelings in not wanting to have a thread that begins to make light of something I personally take very seriously. I'm not saying you all have to agree or view it as a big deal because I do, I'm simply asking that you respect the fact that it might be a big deal to some folks and thus not something we want to see be made light of. I'm not trying to offend anyone here, but for me the issue is not one I find humorous. If you do, that's your right and I respect that. But I'm being honest here in how I feel about it.

Ok, I am confused. I thought the issue being discussed was whether the video posted in that other thread violated your "No politics, religion, or controversial topics" policy.

I take your policy very seriously, the point I was trying to make is that you have the power to define the policy, including what the words mean in any particular case. I don't see the connection between that and your religion (or mine for that matter).

So since I seem to be digging myself deeper into this hole, I'll just shut up. Please accept my apologies if you felt I was being disrespectful of you or your religion. I do have a habit of using humorous comments to try to explain serious concepts, so perhaps that is the problem.

Randall, he shooting at me ...me thinks

I'm not "shooting" at anyone and no one did anything egregious - the problem is more me than it is either of you, truly. The thread I removed dealt with an issue that I take very seriously dealing with the Pope (no one had any real reason to suspect that). Not really a big deal, I just wasn't comfortable with the thread about a religious issue that for me isn't a trivial matter. It's not a matter of anyone saying anything "wrong." Does that make it clearer?
