I hate these kinds of emails

Although he had not been active in some time, I still hate hearing that a member has died. Just got a reply back on my "Merry Christmas and Happy New year" email from the wife of a member who had joined in 2003 and been active in the early days. I was informed that forum member Xracer, from Minnesota, has died. No details.

That's sad to hear. I remember Xracer.

Basil, would a memorium page be appropriate for the forum?

First thing I would check, every morning, is that page just to see if I made it thru the night

That's sad he was a nice guy.

There is also the family to consider - and their privacy.

Yeah, but if you just used a forum name and even if spoken of by first name I can't see a privacy issue.

I'd want you guys to know and have left instructions with the wife but doubt she will remember.

JP, PM...

I suppose it's always tricky when people just disappear... there are times when my work gets on top of me and I go away... and others when it doesn't and I get to play more.... but with a lot of relatively inactive members I'd guess it's impossible to distinguish between who's just dormant on a temporary basis, who's left the forum, and who's truly left...
