Nice! I saw him drive the TR6 (at Lime Rock) and later the Datsun Z cars for Sharp.
We would see him at club races and everyone was very cool....no pestering him for autographs or anything like that.
One time he wore an incredibly obscene tee shirt to a driver's meeting. I was crewing for an FF and my racer friend couldn't resist; he asked if he could take a photo of the shirt, but only below the neck. Newman said, "Sure!"....he was actually pretty cool. I wish I had a copy of that photo.
Joanne Woodward came sometimes too (they would drive there is a semi-beat up VW convertible). My old crew-pal Dana would "cook" our lunch on the exhaust manifold of the tow vehicle (usually chicken). One time Ms. Woodward noticed us doing this and she come over and asked how it worked? She seemed very down-to-earth.
I hated the idea of being a "foto fan" and taking pictures of him in the paddock, but I did get this one shot of him walking away from us one time at LR. Around '74 or so.
