Merry Christmas to y'all!

Merry Christmas from up North also - where we had a tiny amount of snow this morning that is already gone.

Y'all say y'all there? I fig'red y'all spoke better English. I guess that would explain the "to". :jester:
Picked it up from a girlfriend when I was in college. I'm sure my english teachers at Yale are very proud.

"To" helps.

I got in an arguement with one of Kelly's student on the correct spelling of y'all. She southern and well educated, however; spells it ya'll. This argument went on for at least 30 minutes. Even her best friend from Canada knew how to spell it correctly. Just goes to show ya, all that high-dollar schoolin' don't meen yer edugitkait'd coreklee.

Yes, it's Y'all eh!

BTW Y'all is the third word you start to use in the south. First is Big ol' and second is fixin' to (and yes, someone studied it)

A'cordin' ta lot'sa folk, we downt yews werds dhown heer. :eagerness:

guys, I know I am late to this goatrope, but thought I would detrach from the value of the vocabulary discussion....
When I taught workshops for Ibm customers, I always started out having to give them an intro into "southern-ese", due to my sometimes not enuciating my speech and forgetting that people from other countries don't readily understand Texan....So to prepare them, I would write 3 words(awl, all, and oil) on the board, then explain that they are all pronounced the same and then use them each in a context sentence.... "Ow, I stuck awl in my hand!" "We all went to the park." "****,we found more il in the back forty."
At least it broke the ice in the classes.
Happy New Year, y'all,
Larry
