Getting ready to see the Hobbit

My wife bought us tickets on fandango so I guess I am going in about an hour. I don't feel the least bit silly about seeing a movie in the middle of the night. I also don't feel like a dang fool for staying out till 2:30 or 3 in the morning on a work night. There is a part of me (the small 12 year old part in the back of my head) that is excited about seeing it tonight, or is it tomorrow morning?

Well, you probably can't help going no matter how late it is. Force of Hobbit. :highly_amused:

Now I learn this they've broken it into 3 movies!!! What????

I enjoyed the Lord of the Rings movies, and I will go see the Hobbit at some point. Yes, they are splitting this one into 3 movies -- a bit ridiculous as it is the shortest of the books.Could easily have been one, maybe two.

With some splits (like the last Harry Potter movie) I could sorta see why they didn't want to cut as much out. With this one, it just smacks of a money grab.

I made the mistake of reading the book again last week after I found out she bought the tickets. There is a lot of filler that has been added to make the hobbit seem more on the scale of the Lord of the Rings films. Most of it is just plain silly, though some of the changes work well for the film adaption.

I fully expect the 3rd movie to be 3 hours of endings, ala Return of the King's 30-45 minutes of endings after the last fight scene...

Careful! Once you start down that slippery slope, comments like that become hobbitual!! ;)
