1/32 slot car set suggestions

Looking for suggestions / recommendations. The birthday is around the corner and so is 12/25. I've been thinking about "asking" for a 1/32 slot car set. I see there is some really nice stuff out there. What's my best bang for the buck?

Peter, Aren't you a little old to be playing with toy cars? - Doug

Doug, remember they get that white stuff in the winter in Chicago and you can't always get out to play.

I have a couple of Carerra sets.

Me too. I like that they can go 1/32 or 1/25. I'm not serious about this stuff but do enjoy building replicas of favorite cars.

I started with a common TR3A kit:

Mounted it to a wired chassis:

And put Mini-Geo behind the wheel:

I was really surprised, I have had an old $7 Radio Shack slotcar set for the past 20 years or so and every time that I pulled it out the kids and I really enjoyed playing with it for many hours at a time. NOT a great set but fun.

Slot cars was a passion when I was a kid. In fact, they had a hobby store in the town I grew up in that had a huge track and you rented time on the track. On Sat afternoon my buds and me would take our "cool cars" that we built and spend hours racing. It was better than going to the movies!
Wish I had all the cars and equipment from the 60's that my mom got rid of :upset:

I had AFX sets in my younger days. Now the 1/32 scale have caught my eye. Do the digital sets offer any great advantage over the non digital ones?
