Undecided on wheels

So while "Nigel" is patiently awaiting my return from yet another "vacation", I've been using what little spare time I have to build a shopping list for when I get home. Wheels were a little bit lower on my list because I wanted to be home when they arrived, but now there's a big sale on wheels coming up and I cant quite make up my mind. Here's "Nigel" how I left him:

The wheels I have are fine for now, but I'm going to want to upgrade and I cant quite let this sale go by. These are my two finalists:

I'm leaning towards the black ones because they're different and I think they would look good with the rear fender flares I have, but the other ones have that classic almost minilite look to them. I like that look, but sooooo many spridgets have wheels like that. Decisions decisions, oh well, I have a couple days to figure it out (and figure out how to let my wife know that she's going to have to lug a set of wheels into the garage for me).

If your car is staying with the flares, I'd go with the top choice (4 spoke). For a more standard car I really still like the Minilite style wheels. My best advice is to pick the one you like best, and don't worry if other cars have the same wheels.

I've always liked the American Libre wheel style (top one) since they appeared on the BRE Datsuns and I really lusted after them for my Fiat 124 Spyder at the time. I think they'd look great on Nigel and, as you said, would be a little different from the Minilite style.

(usual disclaimer "It's your car, pick out what you like best." inserted here.)

Nigel, I guess you heard about the Black Friday sale we are having, 20% off all VTO wheels, I see you live in AZ. so I can save you on state sales tax as well, even though the wheels are shipped from there, they will be from SC. Your car would be a good canidate for the 14x5.5 retro 4, guys are using 185/60-14 tires on those wheels with RWA Spridgets, but with your flares you can probably go with 195 even. You can pre order anytime from now until work day end this coming Friday and still get in on the 20% discount. here's a pic of a RWA Midget with the 14x5.5 silver Retro 4 on it. I don't totally get the new image posting deal, just click on the pic,and it will give you larger look at it.

I thought I had asked this on here, but I can't find the post now.. HOw do we find out what the pricing is for these wheels, Hap? I can't find the pricing on the website? Thanks!

For a stock, maybe one day lowered 1966 Sprite, is it a choice of 14" or 13" or just 13? (and if it is a choice what are the benefits of each?)

Hap, thanks for the info. I was going to ask about tire size, but now I don't have to. I'm assuming that I can just email you to order the wheels? Getting to a phone right now isn't that easy for me and I didn't see an order form or anything on the website.

Nigel, my phone number is at the bottom of every page on my website, but just in case, here ya go 864-370-3000.

Without a doubt go for the 14 inch wheels. The tire selection for 13s no longer include ANY high performance options, they're even getting hard to find for the 14s, but at least they're still available. Also, since the only option in wheels for years has been the minilite look alike, they're all too common.
My 2 cents

Thanks, I saw the phone number on the website, but in my current situation, getting to a phone is difficult. Luckily I have some internet access so if I can order by email, that would be great. I'll send you an email in the next day or so. Also, "Nigel" is the name I've given to my sprite, my name is Ben.

Yeah I think everyone has given me the answer I was hoping for. I want something a little different for this sprite and the minilite style is everywhere.

Ben, looking forward to your email. On the 14x5.5 on SWA Spridget, I think you have be a bit more careful on tire width on the SWA Spridget, I think there are two possibilties for the SWA in 14" tire , the more conservative size would be 165/60-14, and then one might consider 175/65-14. So far we only put the 14x5.5 on the RWA Spridgets, but 14x5.5 has about .210" more backspacing than the 13x5.5 and there are many guys running 175s on 13x5.5 with 4" of backspcing, AKA Pythias that posted above is one guy I can think of. The biggest issue with the SWA car, is when they are lowered alot, then the tire width deal becomes even more of a issue, but if you at something resembling 69 stock ride height you should be fine.

It will probably be a year before I need rims, would you guess there could be another one of these sales between now and then?

Joey, this is the second year we had this sale, and it's only been on Black Friday, and I do better with it than all of VTO and their dealers combined, so I surely hope so, but that is not my decision to make. Nomally we have a sale in the Spring, but it's only $50 off a set of 4, or free shipping, so nothing as deep as this discount.

Ok, thanks for the insight. I will be responsible and wait until next year. I am running out of room as it is...

I totally get the responsible part, not that I am so much, but that my wallet dictates that I must be  Well if you get to feeling unresponsible, you know who to call
