MGB MkI series OD in a 68 MGB?

Country flag
Offline
Picked up some parts today in a package deal. Included is a MkI series OD.
Will I be able to "drop" it in my 68 MGB? Or are there shaft diameter differences, etc?

There may be some variances in the transmission tunnel of your 1968 that will need to be addressed.

A 3 syncro overdrive is a step backwards for a 68. More fragile and the shifter will be in the worng spot. Also would need to change out the backing plate on the engine and the flywheel and starter. Maybe the driveshaft? Its easy enough to pick up a 68 and newer overdrive. I just purchased a 79 parts car with overdrive. Bob

Thanks Bob. I had a feeling there was something like that going on.
I knew someone here would be able to tell me. I havent picked up the trans yet and I know the seller would understand if I pass on it. Anyone need an early OD for an MGB?

I'd love to have one. First I need to get the car. LOL

First sport car I ever drove was a 67 MGB. THis was around 1971. I've craved one ever since, but wondered over to the dark side in college and can't find my way back.

Were it me I'd pick up that OD transmission anyway -- if nothing else it's good barter material for trading parts with other MG folks. ODs are always in some sort of demand.

Bill, you're welcome back any time.

I realize it has been sometime ago that you posted this entry but I am just now catching up on all the back posts. I have a 1964 B that would love an OD tranny if you still have it.
