I'm somewhat guilty of that as well - not trying to cram more fuel in but trying to get it to stop on a valid (whole dollar) value...

Yup do that as well also shoot for even # no idea why, routinely refill at 1/2 tank another reason the pump after click is nothing more than a bad habit

I typically fill until it clicks off the second time. So far, it hasn't caused a problem, except in the Healey. With the Healey, of course, there is no charcoal tank vent filter, but I drove a short way home, the weather was hot, the gas expanded, overflowed and damaged the clear coat. So now, I only do it if I'm immediately driving a significant distance.

I had this happen with my Kia Soul - the EVAP parts aren't expensive but they are deeply buried. It was more than a decade ago but, from memory, I have about $1000 good reasons not to overfill my tank anymore.

I'll confess I occasionally will give it a little extra click to get the cost to an even number sometimes, but I don't really try to "top it up." For example, if it auto-clicks off at $36.92, I might pull the trigger just enough to get it to $37.00. Why? It's just the OCD in me I guess. So far I've not have any issues with it. I use a card to pay for gas, and in doing so, wherever it clicks off is where it stays. I do watch it, though. Had a pump that didn't shut off once, which eliminated my total trust in the auto shut-downs.

For whatever reason auto shut offs only worked about half the time in my old Spitfire, so I would watch it like a hawk.

I have to use a prepaid card for gas most of time (don't like the pay-first=involuntary tip system at all) but I'll admit that I hate having partial numbers on pretty much anything (when I pay my bills I often just round up to the next dollar as well, if they think the cents are important enough to track they can track it on their end). Our statewide grocery store has a round up and donate the cents to charity, I always do just to make the mental math easier. My insurance company seems to think that $1.43 matters on a bill that is over $1000 to begin with, I pay them $1010 and if the cents are that important to them they can do the accounting to carry it over to the next cycle.

Only use gas 76/Chev cards I may have already got the bad habit under control, today went to pay some state/fed gas tax on 83 mile drive used post #4 method during refuel after 1st clic hesitated, couldn't resist went for 2nd clic needle past the last fill marknever looked at the rollin'$s (always leave on full tank refuel before returning home)
