TR2/3/3A Flywheel pilot bearing......

seems to have created a ridge in the hole where it sits which is making it difficult to remove. I guess I will have to pull the flywheel but I was hoping not to. Anyway what would cause the pilot bearing to rock back and forth to create that ridge? I haven't seen that before when changing one out?
 
If the bearing is loose in the flywheel due to the hole being oversized, then the only sensible option money wise is to replace the flywheel.

Considering the difference in hardness of the 2 parts, I suggest trying a new pilot bearing in there before tossing out a crankshaft ( last choice).

The bearing actually sits in the crankshaft. For some reason, every TR2/3 pilot bearing I have removed/installed has been loose in the crank. I almost think they didn't care if it spun on the tranny input shaft or the crank?!?
 
Could you ream out the crankshaft hole and have someone machine a custom bearing if the crank has been overly worn? Maybe you could do it with the crank in place.
My pilot bearing fits loosely too but it should just be a distribution between two wear surfaces.
 
I didn't know the pilot bearing in a TR was in the crank. I've never encountered that, usually in the flywheel. :rolleyes2: Sorry.
 
If your pilot bushing was not causing trouble, why replace it at all? They never cause trouble. How much do you drive it anyway? Would you even be in there but for the Bendix explosion? If you must, there are pilot bushing pullers of several types for sale.
