Once again trying to get a reading on my gauge. It still will not move unless it's a hot day; and then only barely. It has been rebuilt and reading 60ohms across the leads. Fuel gauge works (same lead). New sensor and thermostat (180).
Questions: Being in Va with hot summers, should I switch the thermostat to 160? Have a metal washer on the sensor. Noticed that Moss lists a fiber washer. Could this be a factor?
Heater is not blowing hot air. Faulty thermostat?

Thx,
Will

Just checked the thermostat. It's stuck open at a slight angle with no change when heated up in water This is a fairly new part and is the "fail safe" model. Is this part (Moss) a better thermostat (and worth the triple price difference)?

Assume you mean the water valve to the heater. I think so. Just flushed the engine several times with it open and replaced the hoses. Did not check it with the hose off.

Sorry, yes that’s what I meant to say.

I had a similar issue with my 74 TR6. It would move to maybe 25% on a hot day and in the winter almost no heat. Changed the thermostat and no change. I just assumed it ran cold. A few years later I checked the thermostat, and it had failed open. I put in a 180-degree thermostat and now constantly in the 50%-gauge level and have heat on colder days. I don’t drive the car in the winter so heat not that important but you do want to get the oil up to temp . I think it is fairly common to thermostats to fail right out of the box. I would try replacing it.

Morning -
OK. For those that don't know, the gauge is not polarity sensitive; so either terminal is fine. If you have a "failsafe" thermostat and it locks open, it cannot be reset and has to be replaced. So, if you happen to run out, these could be a problem. NAPA has a selection of replacement thermostats and gasket. The 180 degree appears to be the preferred part for general year round.
