Is not just a great Beach Boys song, it also describes the whereabouts of the Garmin inReach Mini 2 I ordered. I like to hike, and sometimes I get into areas where cell phone coverage is iffy or nonexistent (like Goblin State Park, UT). I decided, since they had a good Black Friday sale, to get the Garmin inReach Mini 2 GPS and satellite communications device.

It started out in Olathe, KS. Next it went to a facility in Kansas City, MO. From there it ended up in Ybor City FL, then on to Baton Rouge, LA. From there, it arrived and departed from a USPS facility in Saint Rose, LA. It is currently moving through the network, and is in transit to the "next facility." What next facility? God only knows.

I would say it’s lost but that can’t happen with this device.
I’m sure it’s agonizing tracking it. It’s odd that it went to Ybor City…. Doc may have rerouted it :p

I've had the same thing happen with a couple of packages. It is really weird.

Your reluctance to break out the compass and map shows us that you were an officer. :ROFLMAO:

Read the title and the initial information and my mind actually went to Paul Simon

God only knows
God makes his plan
The information's unavailable
To the mortal man

Nah - I went further in the way-back machine:

"Whether its goin' to LA or Chicago, it'll route through Ybor City!" :devilish:

A friend used one when hiking the Pacific Crest Trail this last summer. While he was on his hike, I read a book "Married at Sea" about a couple who's boat was sunk by a whale in the mid-Atlantic. I kept thinking they could have used one.

Oh I got the beach boys bit - I should have been clearer that the part that was appealing to me from Paul Simon - that when it comes to courier companies and deliveries,

"the information's unavailable to the mortal man" :D

Some of these online sellers seem to forget that we order these items to ACTUALLY USE them, not just to facilitate them making a sale. Once it is shipped, I don't think they give a D### !. "If I wanted it next year, I would have ordered it next year". ...J.D.

Our mail here is processed in Greenville,NC,so if you mail a letter to
go across the street it has to go to Greenville & back.
My Wife mailed off a check for our car insurance & it took three months
until they received it.

We're lucky (?). At our post office there are two slots for outgoing mail. One is labeled "In town", the other is labeled "all others".

So local mail is delivered next day - no "regional sorting centers" involved!

Same here, Tom.

Now, if I were to mail something to Elgin, the next town over and maybe an eight minute drive, that mail must go to the City, over an hour away, and then to Elgin.

If I call my pharmacy in the morning for a refill, they process the Rx and drop it off somewhere.
Sometimes I get it that afternoon, at worst the next day.
Generally speaking, any package that stays within Northern California is overnight.
Yes, I think it might be rare, but I'm happy with USPS, except pricing.
I used to send everything in Priority Flat Rate boxes or envelopes for under $10.
Lately, I tried to send a SMALL book to a friend in Canada and it was $40.
I'm glad I'm not in business any longer, shipping would kill me.

I am not a big fan of Amazon, but I do use them They are very good at what they do. I get most orders the next day, and some of them the same day.

But that makes sense - probably why they'll never have that here.
