Something I've taught my students since Antiquity ... always ask "How do you know that's true?"

Many will quickly say "but all my buddies believe it, so it must be true!"

My father used to say

"if your friends told you to jump off a cliff, would you do it?"

We would say

"eat sh*t 5 million flies can't be wrong"

I like the "perpetual motion machine" - it's a cat with buttered toast on it's back.
