Thanks, Elliot, interesting. I'm surprised that the 70-year-old part that failed wasn't inspected and signed off during the aircraft's restoration process. Something I noticed was the wooden (composite) propeller. I do know that the Brits used a lot of wood back then, but I never gave it a thought that they would use wood to make a Spit prop! Learn something new every day! PJ

At least neither the pilot nor passenger were badly hurt and it sounds like the Spitfire is already back in service. So, kuddos to that pilot on a job well done.
