TVR Vixen in Virginia

Hey all from Northern VA.

I'm a long time british car "adjacent" owner having owned a 91 Miata (for 27 years), 03 Miata (track car), and my wifes 03 Boxster.

Story time:
My wifes dad sold his two seater to be a family man in the seventies. As a young girl, my wife promised she would buy him a replacement.

Car in Question: 1970 Orange TVR Vixen 2500 (one of eight?). My FIL ordered while stationed in the UK, with delivery taken at the factory in Blackpool.

I've been looking for almost 15 years to fulfill my wifes promise to her dad. Sadly we lost him about five years ago, but a promise is a promise. I was on a mission to find a unicorn. Less than 400 produced from 70-72. How many could possibly be left in the states after 50 years.

About two months ago a 1971 TVR Vixen 2500 came up for sale. A factory orange car, now repainted a deeper orange. Ordered by a US serviceman stationed in the UK, with delivery taken at Blackpool. That wooshing sound was my wallet emptying.

Did my FIL and the first owner ever meet? I don't know, but they were at the same base in the UK at the same time driving a very unique, identically painted car.

There aren't many left. This one is now ours. I have my FIL's rear UK plate, the front got lost to the sands of time, but I'm going to try and get a repo made so we can have it "right".

There are a few projects that need to be done, but the frame was cleaned/powdercoated in 08, and a new wiring harness went in at the same time. Overall the car is in great shape, but as with everything 50+ y.o. care is needed.

Now to convince my wife that I promised to buy my Dad a Ferrari...
