Since D-Day was just a couple days ago, I was wondering what folks think of the movie Ike (Tom Selleck)? Personally, I thought Selleck did a remarkable job playing Ike. I was frankly a little surprise at how convincing he was (I thought). I didn't think the actor who played Patton was very convincing, but that was a very brief part.

Agree with you on Tom Selleck. Imagine having to deal with Churchill, Spaatz, Tedder, Montgomery - and DeGaulle - and Selleck reveals Ike's iron will in holding the alliance together. And the scenes where Ike is waiting for a positive weather forecast, knowing that further delay will likely cause Germany to learn details of the plan, the date, and the location - man, what tension that builds. Waiting in that tiny cabin (trailer?) for the weather to break, realizing the fate of Western Europe - and probably the USA - hangs on the weather.

Imagine the stress that HQ weather man was under!

Agree with you on Tom Selleck.
I'll be honest, before I saw the movie, if you'd had said they were going to make a movie about Ike starring "Magnum PI," I'd have thought they were nuts. I'd have been wrong.

Thank you, RAF Group Captain Stagg!
