Rip out or destroy yard signs because they don't like a particular candidate. It happens on all sides and I think it shows about a 5th grade level of maturity. We've had yard signs destroyed twice in the past month. We also have a neighbor who had her sign (for a different candidate) stolen. That carp really ticks me off - regardless of whose sign it is. (We've also had a bumper sticker destroyed a few years back - damaged the number in the process.) Grrrrrrr :mad:
 
Agree with you there! Sometimes it seems that political yard signs are just invitations to others to rip them out. That's happened for hundreds of years - at least for folks who could afford to make $$$ contributions to a candidate in return for sticking the sign in their yard.

Never actually understood why it's so important to put those candidate signs in the yard in the first place. How 'bout:

My opinion: It doesn’t matter if you agree with or understand why people show their support for a particular candidate. If that’s not your thing, great, don’t do it. But Dang it, we all have the right to do so and for me the issue isn’t “why do I need to show my support for x,y or z),” the issue is why do some people feel compelled to go into someone’s private land and destroy someone else’s property. I have seen many signs for people I didn’t like, but I would never in a million years feel the need to destroy someone else’s property,
 
I've never touched a sign in someone's yard, doesn't matter to me who they want to support. We have on guy round the corner with literally a yard full of signs, including one that stands over 6ft tall. Whatever he wants, doesn't keep me up at night obsessing over it.
 
When we first moved into our development years and years ago there was a restriction regarding political and religious signs from being displayed. That seems to have disappeared since there are many signs for both parties on neighbors front yards.
I don't have to agree with them, but I would never remove or deface one..... Live and let live.
 
I agree,& that's why I'd never put one in our yard.
I also get really irritated with those who put signs along
side of streets/roads advertising their businesses or services.
 
On the plus side, another week and all election advertising on TV, radio and signs will either be gone completely or be in the process of being taken down.

Not so 'round here - some tend to stay up quite a while after. ☹️
 
Some signs do stay around, but most will disappear round here in the couple weeks after the election. And the big thing, no radio or TV ads starting then, those are the most intrusive.
 
Most jurisdictions here require signs to be gone 72 hours after the election.

More to the original post - over the last few years as we have travelled in the USA, we have seen less and less signs. (a few shrines - both sides but mostly one) but, our conclusion is as has already been noted that when things like bumper stickers are as likely to cause the car to be vandalized - it ain't worth putting on the sticker. sad.

I don't bother with yard signs because where I live, only 2 or 3 people would be ever likely to see them (no thru traffic, on a dead end street). I never do bumper stickers because no matter which side you're on, someone on the other will use it as an excuse to trash your car. I don't even put non-political stickers on - someone will get offended no matter what it does or doesn't say.
