My electrical knowledge has some gaps. To put it poitely. If I have a 24 volt trolling motor, powered by two 12s in series, can I charge with two 12 volt chargers separately connected to the batteries without removing the jumper between them?
Bob
No expert here either, but if the two 12s are in series, you need to charge at 24 volts. Disconnect them and you can charge each at 12 v. I don't know your complete setup with the motor, but it's safer to charge with the batteries disconnected.

I would highly recommend disconnecting the link between the batteries before charging them, even with separate chargers. The reason is because both chargers will have a common ground (black cables on each charger are both grounded, so connecting both of them with the series jumper between the batteries installed would effectively dead-short one of the batteries). They do make 24 volt chargers - most aircraft use a 24 volt system but anything made for aviation use will be unaffordable to normal people. The quick-disconnect between the batteries is the most cost-effective way to so what you need.
I put a button breaker in the back of my boat and installed two trolled 12v charging plugs one on each side of back panel. Turn breaker off and charge with a 12v charger on each side. Was cheaper than buying 24v charger. Boat came wired 24v with no battery so I did 2 12v because it was a lot cheaper than the 24v battery. 21' Champion.
I have the jumper under wing nuts, so am ready with quick disconnect. I was curious whether the separate charge systems would care if the jumper stayed in place. Thanks to all.
Bob
