While visiting our Son in Newport,Rhode Island who's a LT.Commandor,
he informed me that he wants a '55/'56 Chevy BelAir.
He was brought up in a house that had many English Fords (Cortinas,-
Consul Capris,Corsairs,an Anglia,many Fiestas),a TR6 & a MGB GT,& drove
one of the Corsairs in high school.He also owned a TR6 while attending the
USNA.
Where did I go wrong?

Graduated high school in '67, so the coveted car of my youth was 55 or 56 Chev, metal flake, 283 or 301 CI, Wide Ovals, Chrome reverse wheels. Make sure your son puts 4.11 posi in the back; love those two black stripes.

My mom had a 2 door 55 no post and dad had a 4 door. I later bought the 4 door from him for pennies on the dollar. And yes I would like to have her 2 door HT back for sure. Not so much the 4 door as I really cobbled it up.
 
And all during high school in the '60s I hoped/wished/dreamed of a 1955 Chevrolet Bel Aire. Dinah Shore might have had something to do with that.

But at graduation, I had to settle for a 1955 Jaguar.

Ah the tragedies of life ...
 
I have had this 52 Chevy for about 35 years now. When I got my Triumph TR3A, however, I passed this on to my son for good. We still share it, but it stays in his mancave. I love my Triumph! (So did my Dad.... he had three TR3s in his lifetime). I think the kids will come around when they finally identify the cars they grew up around with their roots.

This reminds me of a story my dad used to tell.
he had a friend who was into racing and making films commercially many motorsport related, who was about 16 years older than my dad ( also into racing and just started making racing films himself)

this chap BILL MASON was worried about his son and his career path. He had got himself and a few mates into a music band bill was concerned that it wouldnā€™t lead anywhere, dad told him not to worry as being a musician was still creative and skilful and he was probably just going through that teenage phase.
The son Nick Mason (drummer) seemed to have done ok

was driving to Toronto Sunday am and passed a row of classics going in the other direction - probably ten cars, at least three LBC - TR6, Morgan and maybe TR3, Trans Am, hot rod and a few others, a few minutes later I even saw a Matador wagon that may have been catching up. I must say it pleased me as much as any group of cars I have seen in years, partly because people were out driving on a gorgeous day and mostly because it was just a group of classic car owners enjoying one anothers company and the drive. I am about to join yet another British Car club which is fine but it seems to me fun and driving is really the point not the origin of the car.
