A man always gets off work at 5:00 in the city and takes a train to the suburbs where he lives. His wife always leaves home just in time to pick him up at the station as he steps off the train and they arrive home at the same time every day. One day he got off at 4:00 and took a train an hour earlier. Arriving at the suburb station he realized he forgot to tell his wife so he started walking home. Unknowing, she left home at her usual time. They met along the way and she took him on home where they arrived 45 minutes earlier than usual. How long did the man walk?

Sorry, I missed the green check. I obscured the answer in case others wanted to try their simultaneous equations skills without knowing the answer ahead of time.
