Not a fan of the man in his later years. I had many contacts with him and none were to pleasant.

The people running the slalom (autocross) t the
All British Field Meet in Portland,Oregon told me that
Shelby entered an autocross at a different event,but he
didn't want to wear a helmet.He asked them something
like "You know who I am?".
They replied - "I don't care who you are,you still have-
to wear one".
From what I've heard & read,Shelby didn't do the
work (or the majority of it),he was just really smart to surround
himself with very talented people.
I kind of get the idea that he was a great salesman,& knew
how to talk to get things done,& made a ton of money doing it.

Doug - much of that would apply to Henry Ford too, tho' he also really loved tinkering around and improving things.
