My car doesn't start that easily when it sits for a while and I am beginning to wonder if this would help.

1. If you have one what has been your experience and

2. why is it $100 more expensive at Moss (other than err Moss)

Got tired of playing "Ring Gear Roulette" with the B, didn't fancy pulling it apart for a replacement so put a WOSP starter in a couple years ago. Works fine. As for expense, even the Moss unit was still less time/effort/money than the job of pulling engine/trans, AFAIC.

I have that starter on 3 vehicles. Much easier starting. But everything else has to work also
 
I put one in a couple of years ago and have never regretted it. Like doc I got tired of pulling and reinstalling the original boat anchor starter. I paid $230 for mine. As you can see from the pic the new starter has multiple mounting holes to allow for the perfect fit. As a bonus it’s smaller and lighter.

I'd guess the gear reduction unit weighs about HALF what the original does. Only "risk" with the new motor is the position of the hot lead. Make sure to put the supplied rubber boot over the connection. On the B engine, the distributor cap clip can inadvertently drop down and contact the connection. Not sure about the 1500, but a consideration.
