Not a british car, but was nice to do
This I did some time ago when i worked for a small family run company called Paint master.
Start to finish it took three months, The engine and gearbox was cleaned up by the owners father.
All repair panels i had to hand make, including running boards as the only replacements the owner
could find were smooth, he wanted to retain the originals, all repairs were lead loaded before the filler
went on, the colour choice was left to me, the guy didnt know what colour to do it,

Hi Nutmeg, it's what I have done most of my working life, started as an apprentice mechanic, served my time but found I was doing more and more bodywork. I found it more satisfying. You can see the fruits of your labour.
 
My welding skills aren't bad by any stretch, but I'm far from being a paint and body man.

Funnily enough when painting the engine in my 52 IH I went with the same colors just with silver as the primary color and black as the accent. The 220 IH is known as the Silver Diamond.
 
Beginning welders need to see Fitzees Fabrication on youtube, has videos from setup to everything, big following. Will answer questions too.

If I tried that the fruits of my labor would be dried prunes!
