Saw this Mustang EV parked on the street in Montreal. I think it looks pretty ugly.

Same as most of us here: youth...As a follow up - what is it about SUV's that make so many people want them?
As one of the Ancients, I want a vehicle that looks good as well as being useful. To me, the SUV may be "cute" and useful, but ... blech.
What am I missing?

Tom, I agree, they aren't even as fun as the old station wagons they replaced. As a follow up - what is it about SUV's that make so many people want them?

I agree. I have a sedan and my wife has a RAV4. Her SUV does the heavy lifting when needed to transport something or pull my trailer.I could be wrong, but I think that it creates a hardship for a lot of folks today to have 2 vehicles, (not counting our MG playthings), because of cost and maintaining more than one vehicle. SUVs are multi-purpose vehicles and can be purchased in a multitude of accessories to fit one's needs. I'm not pro or con on them, but they all look like they fell out of the same mold.Actually, I like very few newer cars today.
Let’s not forget marketing and the perception of safety. I was reading that other than the Mustang Ford is getting out of making cars (they sell 5 trucks for every car) but the author also asked the question, when last did you see a commercial for a Ford car? (Much bigger margin on an SUV) Also, for years, SUV’s have been marketed to soccer moms as the safest way to transport kids. Of course being trucks they were exempted from actual impact regulations and rollover data but those are just pesky details. And in fairness i would rather be in an SUV than Mrs JP’s mini in an accident. And then there is the macho bitAs a follow up - what is it about SUV's that make so many people want them?

Agreed. My car died two weeks into covid and while I sometimes wish the Mini was a little bigger we have no incentive to even look for another car. I have learned the wonders of delivery and renting. Yes Mrs JP and I have to plan a little more as we both travel some for work, but, if you had asked me three years ago I would have sworn we needed two cars one of which was a wagon/suv. Now we are pretty committed to one car and if we do get new will likely be a sedan. Certainly the insurance/gas/repair savings leave a lot of capacity for rentals and Uber. (The last time we had one car in the 90’s Mrs JP badly wanted a car as she thought that when she turned 40 she should have her own car. We looked for a month and found nothing that we could afford that wasn’t junk. We finally decided that if ever we needed two we would rent a car no questions asked. In the first year we rented a car fir two day)I could be wrong, but I think that it creates a hardship for a lot of folks today to have 2 vehicles, (not counting our MG playthings), because of cost and maintaining more than one vehicle. That’s exactly the exterior finish that the car had. That's a wrap...
