I went to VTR this year and towed a trailer from Georgia to Galena IL. 1002 miles each way. I was getting 16.5 mpg for the first 400 miles then noticed it started to drop. I split the drive from Georgia to Galena into 3 going up staying with my daughter the second night.
The third day driving I was getting 13.5 mpg according to the trucks computer. I was putting the drop in mpg down to having to constantly change speed for road works 70 mph then 45 mph and back.
On the way home I went a different route with less road construction but still got the same gas mileage till I got down to Tennessee where it started to go back up to 15 mpg and finally back to 16 mpg.
Was the drop caused by the higher ethanol content of the gas?
The event at Galena was great.
