MPG from my 2019 Ranger while towing.

I went to VTR this year and towed a trailer from Georgia to Galena IL. 1002 miles each way. I was getting 16.5 mpg for the first 400 miles then noticed it started to drop. I split the drive from Georgia to Galena into 3 going up staying with my daughter the second night.
The third day driving I was getting 13.5 mpg according to the trucks computer. I was putting the drop in mpg down to having to constantly change speed for road works 70 mph then 45 mph and back.
On the way home I went a different route with less road construction but still got the same gas mileage till I got down to Tennessee where it started to go back up to 15 mpg and finally back to 16 mpg.
Was the drop caused by the higher ethanol content of the gas?

The event at Galena was great.

That and possibly how much of the trip is uphill vs down hill and also how much you can maintain an optimum speed. When towing an R-pod camper behind the Telluride, I found that around 65MPH is a sweet spot for milage.

I've pulled many heavly loaded trailers with my trucks across the country and I never use cruise control when towing due to the lowering of fuel economy and making the engine work harder. If you try to rush, it'll cost you money. As the saying goes, how fast do you want to spend? I agree that 60 to 65 is a good speed without straining anything. :thumbsup2:

It seemed the greatest elevation changes were around Chattanooga TN. At least the steepest assents and descents.
I almost always use cruse control when towing or not. I get almost 27mpg on a long run when I am not towing.
On some of the return from Galena I was traveling with several others and the leader did not use cruse control. Our speed varied from 60 to 75 in a 70 limit area.
Last weekend I trailered to Dillard and back and got 15.5 mpg despite a lot of the drive being secondary roads.
