AC Pump Blew Apart

This is on one of my tractors. Was mowing pasture yesterday and heard a loud bang, sounded like a gun went off! After shutting down everything, I found that the AC compressor blew the back end out. In all my years I've never encountered this or ever heard of it happening! I would think a line would blow first if it was over pressure! Well, the right side of the engine will not rust for a while! WOW! I doubt JB Weld would do any good there!

Woulda thought a high pressure switch should have disengaged the clutch. Faulty switch?

Can you get just the "head" as a part or is the whole compressor now scrap, Paul? If the impeller and barrel spin freely and the clutch engages/disengages, it'd seem a waste to just scrap the whole unit.

That's what I thought, but my knowledge about AC units is quite low. Thanks guys, new compressor and switch! I would say that the hoses are stronger than the compressor casting! :rolleyes2:

That, or the output side of the compressor is blocked at the port itself.

Well, a new one is coming, not really needed anyway, just get out of the cab a little damp! :censored1:

Air conditioning on a tractor! What'll they think of next ... putting buttons on phones?

And Tom, you’ll be amazed to learn that we now have typewriters that are electric! 🤠
Typewriter? What's that?

Just found out they used the same compressor used on some Toyota models. Figured I'd just match what was on it, needles to say where it came from. The tractor was new in 2008, so it lasted a while. (y)
