Hi y'all, I'm a new member and I reached out to Basil or some advice on registering my new purchase, a 67 Healey 3000 BJ8 MKIII which I bought on vacation in CA last week! I live in Myrtle Beach and just joined the Grand Strand British Car Club recently (before I bought the Healey). I'm interested in a bar in the front with badges and I'd like to chrome the silver wires. I wasn't sure about posting Car #s, photos or videos due to scam artists.
I've owned a 59 MGA, 74 TR6 and a '73 Triumph Bonneville 750. My wife does not feel safe on my 2104 Harley Ultra Limited so I said if I sell it I'm buying a British car again! That worked out pretty well! I'm selling the Harley and its beautiful with only 11K miles on it. I hope to learn a lot form you all and my Healey is scheduled to arrive June 1st, I have not even driven it yet! Basil, thank you for all your information and help so far! CraigsHealey3000

welcome - sounds like a great car. Shouldn't be a problem posting pics.

glad you are here

Thank you. I used to use Moss Motors for parts when I had my MGA, and I know they were expensive then, what companies do you recommend for Healey 3000 parts?

Welcome!

The 'net has opened up really good access to the rest of the planet, so a call to England or Cali from The Beach costs the same. 😉

I'd not be too anxious to chrome out the wire wheels, IMHO they look better as they were out of the factory. A fair match for the color is a Rustoleum silver if they need redone. Some here are more up-to-date with what may be a better match, though.

And I would regard the 1967 3000 as the pinnacle for the AH production. Well done!

Not sure I can give a good answer - for the Midget I typically use Moss and find them quite reasonable. Big Healeys I suspect have a premium attached. I do gather that a number from this forum are ordering directly from England, finding the exchange rate favourable, quality good and in many cases, delivery quicker.

Others will hopefully chime in

I buy a lot of parts from AHSpares in England. Good service , the stuff usually shows up in 5 to 6 days. Typical shipping costs about $45. I buy from Moss and BPnorthwest.com also. BPnorthwest is great for mechanical parts.

I am not sure if you have a powder coat place by you, but they could paint the wheels. I doubt anyone would take the liability to chrome them at their age.
I also have a 67 Healey. I like the console and dash in the last Healeys.

If you want to order Moss parts you can get them at a ten or fifteen percent discount if you order from Little British Car company. Jeff is very quick with shipping orders.

Had power failure that chopped up my initial response.

Welcome to the world of Healeys. Moss Motors is the easiest source to order from, but that convenience comes with a price. Like Nelson, I'd second www.lbcarco.com for their service and I think their shipping costs are less than Moss. You might also look at British Car Specialists > British Car Specialists - Stockton CA - Land Rover - Austin Healey Triumph MG Jaguar Mini Cooper Repair Maintenance Restoration < and Healey Surgeons > Austin Healey Parts and Repairs by Healey Surgeons <. If you want chrome wires, the best way is to bite the bullet and buy new Dayton wires that are stainless spokes with chrome rims. And if you have questions, just ask her.

Curious to know why you wouldn't want to chrome the wires, they are silver now but I've seen a similar Healey, ice blue and the chrome wires look great. Thanks.

Welcome aboard!! Just FYI, if you use the “insert image icon” instead of add attachment it will place your image inline in your post.

First, the expense of doing the chrome and rebuilding correctly. No telling what would be found and the job of restringing and truing those wheels is an exacting process.

Second, when you could get a set of new Dunlop ones ready-to-go for likely near the same money, the idea of "new" wires just makes sense.
