BJ7 Rear Quarter Panels

Hi, im just trying to fit my rear quarter panels on my BJ7, i bought these from AH Spares.

Should they need trimming at all ? i can get the seat bolt anchor to align through the panel but when i try and get the front edge to align to the door pillar lip it puts alot of bend on the wooden panel and bows it, im assuming it should just fit in flat.

Do the rear backrest panel brackets bolt on first to the inner wing and then the quarter panel screws to this at the rear ?

How does it fix to the lip on the door pillar, just self tapping screws.

It feels like i'm getting somewhere with the jigsaw !

I think how I'd approach it is anchoring the edge at the door opening first and then adjust everything rearward to fit. It's not unusual to need to do some trimming with any aftermarket part.

I did not have too much trouble with mine, the rear of the panel screws to the wide face of the bracket that is welded onto the wing and that holds the the rubber clip for the coach mans bracket that is screwed onto the rear of the back rest, the front is then fitted to the door reveal then you alter the position of the safety belt fixing to suit. If all that makes sense. My safety belt fixing was an adaption by a PO and consisted of a single bolt fixing through the wing and through the quarter panel. I had to cut a new hole in the quarter panels to line every thing up. The screws are generally chromed or stainless self tappers. Your door weather seal fits over onto the section of the panel near the door - say about 2 - 3 inches in and is finished with a clip. Mine is in pieces at the moment so I can not send photigs of the final finish.

Hi Bob, thanks for this. My seat belt fitting is also a single hole fitting with an eye bolt. I think my panel is snagging where the metal section is at the bottom of the footwell, i will try trimming this back and see if that helps as currently if i secure front edge and back edge it bulges the ply. How did this project end? I'm having a similar issue with a panel I purchased in the 90s. I'm just now getting around to updating the rear seat back to it's original configuration with new brackets in place. It appears that the panels make the overall width from side to side too small for what I have seen the rear seat back should be. Can anyone send a picture of what the proper connection looks like between the panels and the rear bracket? Seems it should be a little shorter than the same panel in a BJ8.

Hi, i think i have the opposite, the side panels seem to fit ok but then the back panel is too short ? i bought a new wooden back panel and had it trimmed so maybe i was sent the wrong piece or the trimmer did something odd.
So in answer to your question i'm still figuring out what to do.

I am not 100% sure but I do not think that the back of the seat was designed to fold flat. It stopped at the seat belt nuts. The BJ8 of course does.
