Monday Morning - Baby it's (Still) cold outside.

We had almost two weeks of extreme cold here in Alberta over the Christmas week... Some nights as low as -30 Celcius, that's cold, but then we always get at least one good cold snap every winter here on the Canadian prairies... Life still goes on, including going to work, for those who park outside that's what a block heater is for...

Did someone say it's cold?

Did someone say it's cold?
sad but true - I am standing as I type this as I have nothing to sit on. :jester:

I've posted this before - still one of my favourite commercials

So, carrying on a bit. As previously noted it has been a genuinely - and TBH - an unusually cold week for this part of the country. It has been a few years since it has been this cold and since we have had this much snow at once.

The good news is that it was above freezing on Tuesday, so, while there is much snow everywhere, it is melted off the driveways and sidewalks and even the roads are clear - though narrower from where the plows put the snow.

As I write it is -11C and feels like -15 - later today it will get up to -5 (feels like -13) so while not exactly balmy at least I can set up the saw outside without fear of dying - this to continue on with the kitchen.

Speaking of kitchens, going back to last Sunday I had to go out to pick up a new faucet. As I drove I realized snow was coming and stopped at Home Depot to pick up a sheet of drywall for the range vent hood. This is always slightly hilarious because our only car is Mr JP's Mini Cooper - so, as before, there I am in the parking lot cutting the drywall into three pieces to fit in the car. :D

I tell you this because I really want to talk about the garage. Thise who know me (and it has been discussed before) know of the ummm 'organizational' issues I have with the garage. Partly because there is too much stuff (which I genuinely am addressing) partly because I am a packrat, partly because even though it is a double car garage it is a bit on the small side (apologies to those with smaller garages than that)

I also often don't have the time make the time to put things away properly. Oh and I am cheap so much of my storage is 'as found' or cobbled together.

This year I am somewhat determined to address this.

This is what it looks like now:

Just before Christmas, this showed up on Facebook and for $20 it was mine

Not in its final location as I am both experimenting with what goes in - and will need to demolish a nasty workbench to put it in permanently.

Coming back to Home Depot - for a long time I have been looking at one of these and trying to justify buying one

Sunday I quite by accident noticed that they had the 52" version on sale

Basically $100 off - so the same price as the smaller one - Ooo time to buy!

Of course it wouldn't fit in the Mini - so, I am paying for it and arranging for delivery.

The woman processing it pulls up the SKEW number and discoveres the price hasn't been lowered in the computer - AND it won't allow her to enter a new price - only a percentage. I say 'put in 20%' she looks at me with a 'what is this strange magic you propose?' But she did and to no surprise it came to the correct price (actually 40 cents in their favour but I can live with that.) Interestingly it also dropped the delivery fee by 20% - more than 40 cents! and she couldn't correct it but let it go.

Fast forward to 8PM Tuesday when finally it is delivered by a hilarious Jamaican delivery guy - and now this resides in my garage.

Oh and as they carried the box in, on the front was a sheet of paper advertizing the chest for $100 less than I had paid! Whaaaat?! Well next day I went back to Home Depot and of course they gave me the balance back. Actually even better because they asked, for ease, could they just refund the original and re sell it at the new price. Of course says I - which means I got my 40 cents back!

Result!

Now I just need to get organized.

Today it was about 12 degrees (whatever that is in Canadian).
Told my Wife she could go ice skating in the yard.

Not sure Canada has their own temperature scale.

Now I just need to get organized.
I've looked at those "Husky" roll cabs. Very nice!

As for getting organized, I'd be ashamed to post pix of my garage. Yours seems to be headed for true utility by comparison.

Someone posted that earlier, IIRC. But I can sympathize with th' sentiment! The winter of '78 in western PA was all she wrote for this li'l duck!

It's in the 50s and sunny today.

grumble grumble, actually about 18 today - which, while cold was warm enough to get the mitre saw out (after church) Baseboard Trim installed on the kitchen and caulked.

All that remains is muddin and painting the range hood - a bit of mud in the dining room, paint and we are golden!

Oh and waiting on some light fixtures from Wayfair

JP, if that's 18F then you are a lot tougher than I am
