Read his autobiography when it came out. He did his own work on the family Volvo back-when, wrote about tuning the SU's.

Ditto, I have his "My American Story" in the rack. Respected his journey and his service.
 
I admired him long before I was mature enough to pay attention to the news. He transcended it. (Am I mis-remembering that even SNL never satirized him?)

All of the TV remembrances mention that he was the son of immigrants, which I had never heard before. None of them are saying what country they left. For those of us who don't have his book, I looked it up online: According to Wiki, his parents came from Jamaica and both of them were of mixed Scottish and Jamaican ancestry.
