The Bedbug Letter"
That's a new one on me. I'm sure BMC, BL, JRT, etc had a whole bunch of them written and sent out during the waning years of their reign. One of my oft-told stories was traveling to England with my new wife in 1977 and we wanted to have the experience of driving a sportscar around the country. I booked a new TR7 in advance and when I arrived at the agency to pick it up was told they didn't have the car. When I asked why not, I was told, "They are all in the shop for repairs." They did give me a very nice MGB-GT, though.

Many versions of "bed bug", but basically: a complaining customer receives a seemingly personalized and polite written apology in response to his correspondence, but marred by the inadvertent inclusion of instructions from a manager to send the recipient “the standard letter”.
