Hello everyone,
Very pleased to be joining this forum. I live in HK. I bought last year a Austin Healey 3000 MkI from 1960 to my parents, who live in France. My parents sold a house and wanted to give me and my brother the profit they made. Instead of putting money on the bank account, I decided to buy my dad the car he has always lusted upon. One day, the car will be passed on to me, with all the memories attached to it. They move to a new town, and itās also a great socializing tool for them.
I like our 1960 Mark I BT7 because it came with the original hard top and unusual original disc wheels and appeared to be rather original, as professional inspection confirmed. I love its patina. It was originally sold in California according to the British Heritage Certificate and has been in France for at least the past 10 years. I am trying to trace back its history. I have not yet been able to go further back than 2012, unfortunately. I reached out to the Austin Healey Association of South California, the Golden Gate AHC and the Austin Healey Club of San Diego. I was hoping someone would recognize her but no luck.
On the bright side, I was able to exchange with her last known owner, a very friendly Parisian, who had kept the front bumper (that he removed to give the car a more sporty look) and the spare wheel (lucky me, because these wheels are hard to find). Unfortunately, the dealer he bought the car from is not responding to my inquiry. Maybe someone on this forum will recognize her, who knows?
The car is now driven by my dad on the roads of Brittany, France. It runs smooth. A local mechanic did a few things late last year (engine tuning and cleaning, fix the heating system, install a new vinyl hood, refresh the trunk lining etc.). The only issue is that the fuel gauge is not working. A bugger ! My dad took my daughter on a short journey on the South Brittany coast last month, forgot about it and ran out of gas ! Itās a learning curve.
Cheers, Francois
