TR2/3/3A used POR 15 for like a base primmer

Has anyone used POR 15 for like a base primmer coat then used high build primmer on top of that. They say you can” top coat” over POR 15 after sanding it I guess with 400, so why not. I guess my question is has anyone top coated over POR 15?

I've put various coatings over POR15. In fact, srandard POR15 is not UV resistant, so needs to be covered with something if there is any sun exposure.

I have also used the POR 15 engine paint and since I did not want to sand, I only let it dry a few hours till barely tacky, then top coated with Healey green spray paint. Sticks really well!

I used POR 15 for both the inside and out side of my tub. Then used high build primer over the POR 15. I did sand the lumps in the POR15 but as it was inside and under the I did not go over the top sanding.

I used the purple scratch pads rather than sand paper. Lots easier to use.

So did you guys spray the POR15? And if so what did you use for a reducer just regular generic reducer?

I used a brush. It lays down very smooth. No brush marks.

I would not use POR15 on any exposed exterior body panels...Ok for inside doors, sills etc.
I use rust convertor on any rust that has been thoroughly cleaned.
Then thoroughly cleaned again before using a quality epoxy primer.
The epoxy primer can then be left as is until the high build body primer is applied.

I've been using the Eastwood rust encapsulator, which is their answer to POR15 and probably is pretty similar. I have been epoxy-priming over it, after checking with the Eastwood customer service. The adhesion will be that of the encapsulator, not the epoxy primer, which is to be expected, but I don't foresee any other problems. The alternative, after all, is to take off all the oxide, which either won't happen or will require sanding off a fair amount of good metal. So, I think it's OK to do, in view of the realities of repainting an older car.
