Any suggestions appreciated- '66 Spitfire MK2- New speedo cable installed, worked great for about 40-50 miles. Then would register 10-20mph and stick. Checked it and cable had come loose at the back of the speedo. Removed the cable, needle fell to 0, re-installed to the back of the speedo. Works but real sluggish, not accurate, registers up to around 20mph and will work down to 10mph, mileage works. Unhooked it again at the back of the speedo then re-installed, same results.

Wondering if it is only a cable issue or is the speedo bad?

Thank you

Did you do cable and cover jacket or just the drive cable. If so needs a good lube in jacket. Is it from Moss

Ive been there plenty of times. Only fix is to send it to instrument maker for a rebuild

If the odometer is working and accurate, that rules out the cable.

Sending the instrument off isn't the only fix, but it might be the right one in this case.
