Having seen that Prince Phillip was into Carriage driving in his younger days I looked up carriage driving to show my wife what was involved in that sport. That got me to thinking about the County shows I would go to a long time ago and how impressive the Kings Troop Royal Horse displays were.

I found this on you tube.
Standing at the end of the arena you get some idea what it must have been like to have the Light Brigade charging at you. I have some photos somewhere I will post if I can find them.

It looks like they are firing the artillery right at the crowd.
 
They are but only blanks and the crowd are about 30' away. Don't think they have lost anyone in the crowd yet. LOUD does not do it justice.
