16 deg and our heater decided to take a break about 3:00 am. Can't keep SWMBO warm even in front of the fireplace. Made a batch of biscuits just for an excuse to run the oven. Fortunately we have fairly new double pane windows in this 70 year old house. And a tech is coming in another hour or so.

19F here this morning and 1/4 inch of glare ice on the road! Their predicting 12 degrees on Monday! :cold: Seems to be exceptionally cold here this year where that large cold air mass dropped further down and seems to be hanging around longer than usual. Oh well, stay in the warm and toasty house, could go out in the heated garage and tinker with the TF, but I'm tired of polishing it!

That genuinely sucks, sir! That happened to friends in eastern PA a couple years ago. They "added" a fail-safe of sorts by installing baseboard heaters in living space and bedroom. I know it's a horse/barn-door situation, but may be worth consideration for the future. In college, rooming in a third floor drafty apartment, we used a hair dryer under blankets for warmth.

That is tough situation. But, thank the electric co gods your lights are still on.

My little radiant heater gave me an ugly-looking rash that was finally diagnosed as erythma ib igne. A space heater, heat lamp or hot water bottle can give it to you, also cellphone batteries. In my case, seated at the computer with my flip phone in my left pants pocket aggravated the condition. I suspected my phone had something to do with it, thought it might be some sort of radiation so I switched it to the right pocket away from the heater. There is no cure except removing the heat source. That rash will probably be with me until summer or beyond. What next?

Well I got lucky this time. Guy was here at 9:15 and fixed it within 5 minutes. There was a switch that tells the brain whether the exhaust fan was able to clear any fumes before turning on the gas. It was dirty or something and failed. As for the future, my son is building a house in Florida and has 3 electric space heaters he won't need anymore so is giving them to me. Thanks for the concern guys.

:cold: << Been looking for an excuse to use this one!

We have a few small ceramic heaters that we can use in rare cases where our furnace stops working (has happened a couple of times). Of course they only work if you have power, but they do put out a good amount of heat for their small size.

I had a smaller one with a fan that worked great but kept blowing circuit breakers. Now in the cellar gathering dust. Anybody want it?
